Ellie won a scholarship to Aylesbury Music Centre in 1993. In 2000 she gained a place at Trinity Music College studying French Horn and piano. Developing an interest in Music Tech, she transferred to City University to complete a Music degree that covered aspects of Sound as well as Music.
Whilst studying at City University Ellie started to experiment with producing and recording music. She also learned to play Gamelan and continued her piano lessons at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After graduating from university Ellie divided her time between playing music and training to be a Live Sound Engineer in venues for bands and artists.
Ellie has always enjoyed teaching and her teaching career began in 1999 when she set up a Recorder Club for the children in her village and started teaching beginner piano. Since then she has enjoyed teaching a variety of students from different backgrounds; from a Music Tech course at Bedford College (2008), to private music tuition (1999 – 2020), to creating and delivering a Live Sound course at Community Music in East London (2018).
Ellie has also been a Live Sound Engineer for the last 16 years working with music, theatre and dance. In 2004, Ellie started working as a Sound Engineer for the London Breakbeat Orchestra and small London venues. In 2005 she took the position of Head of Sound at ‘The Fly’ on New Oxford Street. By 2007 Ellie had started a busy touring schedule and by 2010 had started working with the band ‘King Krule’.
Ellie later cut back on touring work to take on regular work at bigger London venues such as Heaven Nightclub and the ICA. These changes meant that Ellie had time to produce 3 EP’s and her debut album “Twelve” (2017). This album was nominated Best Concept Album (2018 – Interactive Media Awards). Ellie brought together a band with whom she has performed since 2016 at various London venues and at Lechlade and Daxtonbury Festivals.
In 2019, Ellie accompanied Susheela Raman to Indonesia to rehearse, before travelling to Australia to headline the Melbourne Arts Festival. For this project, Ellie made custom microphones for the gongs. This same year Ellie won the Women In Live Music award for best Front Of House Engineer.
